The digital collection Der Erste Weltkrieg auf der Bildpostkarte [The First World War on illustrated postcards] has been created by the musicologist Sabine Giesebrecht at the University of Osnabrück. This collection with seventeen sections is particular strong for the field of songs and music. The collection concerning the First World War is divided into three major sections. The first section (13) deals with the start of the war, propaganda, music and humour (some 1,200 cards). The second section (14), Kämpfe 1914-1918 [Battles 1914-1918] brings you to the armies, the enemies, the fronts and weapons (some 1,700 items). The third section (15), Heimat und Front 1914-1918 [Home and the front] shows nearly 1,000 items with themes such as religion, daily life, the role of women, support for the armies and savings. The images of the postcards can be enlarged. Images have been marked with a collection logo. You can search for any search term in the free text search field, use the index of incipits of songs or search for persons and keywords in the indexes. The website can only be viewed in German.
