The digital collection La Grande Guerra 1914-1918: I diari raccontano [The Great War 1914-1918: The diaries speak] has been created by the Archivio diaristico nazionale in Pieve Santo Stefano and the newspaper L’Espresso. This collection contains excerpts and sections from currently some 140 diaries written by men and women, both civilians and people enlisted in the Italian army during the First World War. They write about their experiences both in Italy and elsewhere, in particular in the Habsburg empire and the Balkan, but also for example in Germany and Poland. You can select authors (autori), themes (temi), and events and locations of war (eventi e luoghi bellicii). You can also use the free text search. The public is also invited to contribute to the collection by bringing diaries to the attention of the project. The collection is accessible in Italian.
