The digital collection Topical Sketches by Douglas G. Ward has been created as a part of the Digital Collections of the University of South Carolina Libraries. With six other digital collections it belongs to the Joseph M. Bruccoli Great War Collection. These collections are listed also at the South Carolina Digital Library. Corporal Douglas G. Ward served with the South Staffordshire Regiment. He took part in the landings at Gallipoli in 1915. In 1916 he served at the Somme. He got wounded and was transferred to India. His sketchbook made in ink and pen and watercolour contains 65 drawings on many subjects, for example his training at an infantry camp. A number of drawings are clearly cartoons. There are some brief notices, too. You can browse the entire sketchbook and use thumbnail images to accelerate browsing.
