The digital collection Fotosammlung 1. Weltkrieg has been created by Memoriav, a Swiss consortium of five cultural institutions with the goal of describing, preserving and digitizing audiovisual materials from Switzerland. Among the digital collections is the Fotosammlung 1. Weltkrieg with some 5,100 images dating between 1914 and 1918 from the holdings of the Schweizerisches Bundesarchiv in Bern (Bestand E 27, Landesverteidigung). The photographs were taken by photographers attached to the geographical-archival section of the Swiss army staff. You can search these images using a free text field or with an expert search while restricting the search to this image collection (the first collection in the tree structure in the section with photographs). You can also browse the entire collection. The website provides an introduction to this collection (only in German). The digital collection can be viewed in German, English, French and Italian, but search terms have to be entered in German.
